The former manager of London's St Paul's Cathedral gift shop has been handed eight months in jail for defrauding her employer by ordering stamps in to stock and then selling them herself privately.

Alison Robinson, aged 44, purchased stamps on behalf of the company worth nearly £60,000 between February 2006 and May 2007 before selling them for up to half their price on eBay. After 19 years working in the shop Robinson left her job in mid 2007 before her crime had been unearthed.

This case should highlight to employers the significant value of stamps being held in workplaces either as stock or to use on post and the associated risks involved.
