Royal Mail Reveals London 2012 Olympic Games Definitive Stamps

OLYMPIC DEFINITIVE STAMPS TO BE ISSUED JANUARY 5th 2012

The new definitive stamps will be available from every one of the 11,800 Post Office branches across the UK from Thursday January 5th 2012.

There will be four stamp designs issued: Two for 1st Class inland postage of standard size mail up to 100gm and two for Worldwide items weighing up to 20gm. Both of the values will feature one stamp with the London 2012 Olympic Games logo and the other with the logo for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Stephen Agar from Royal Mail said: "People sending letters to friends or family in the UK and overseas tourists sending mail abroad will be able to commemorate this historic event by using these stamps to post their items. As we reach the 300 day countdown, it’s exciting to see millions of these stamps rolling off the printing presses." Royal Mail say that around a million of the new stamps featuring the striking orange and blue designs will be printed each hour in Walsall, West Midlands over the next few days.

Royal Mail issued its first Olympic Games Stamps in 1948 when four stamps, each bearing the five Olympic Rings, were issued.

As an official licensee of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Royal Mail has also issued 30 Special Olympic Stamps over the last three years celebrating every sport to be contested next year.

More information on the current range of Olympic and Paralympic Stamps is available from the Royal Mail website.
