London 2012 Olympics - Royal Mail to Issue Special Stamps for Every TeamGB Gold Medal
Royal Mail rarely issues stamps featuring the recognisable image of living people (other than the Royal Family) and it isn't yet known whether the images of the winning athletes will feature in the design of these Olympic winners stamps.
This will be the third time an Olympic host nation issues stamps to mark individual event wins. Back in 2000, Australia Post was the first postal authority to issue stamps for gold medals won by their national team in Sydney. Hellenic Post did likewise for the 2004 Athens Olympics but China Post only issued a commemorative sheet of stamps marking their team's combined success in Beijing 2008.
The Royal Mail has been issuing special stamps featuring the Olympics since 1948 when the games were last hosted in London.
